The Bullying Prevention Committee (BPC) got its start as part of the Novato Unified School District’s Diversity Advisory and School Culture & Climate Committees, comprised of district administrators, parents and community members invested in promoting a safe and healthy school environment. Novato has always been on the cutting edge of safe school policies and procedures, implementing many measures and policies before the State Department of Education began to require such practices.
As a part of the Novato Blue Ribbon Coalition, the BPC has worked with numerous community partners, including the Marin County Library Services-Hamilton Marker Space & City of Novato Public Library, Novato Unified School District, Novato Police Department, Healthy Novato Initiative, City of Novato Parks, Recreation & Community Services Department, Marin Health & Human Services, and the Novato Youth Center (fiscal sponsor).
Bullying is a significant mental health issue, which can lead to chronic stress, negative emotional experiences, and substance abuse later in life. By addressing issues related to bullying and social isolation, the Coalition believes that substance use rates will ultimately also be affected.
The Bullying Prevention Committee meets every 1st Wednesday of the month from 5-6:30pm in the Coalition offices. Please remember to check our Coalition Google Calendar for updated information and meeting times.
